The Lost Abbey to release Veritas 018
San Marcos, CA –The Lost Abbey is set to release the 18th edition in its Veritas line of beers, with the on-sale beginning on Thursday, October 27th at Noon (PST).
Veritas has been an ongoing experiment of the relationship between fruit, Brettanomyces and barrel aging.
Veritas 018 will be a redux of Veritas 015, which took home gold medals from the 2015 Great American Beer Festival (Wood and Barrel Aged Beer), The 2015 Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beer (FOBAB – Wild Beers w/ Fruit), and The 2015 San Diego International Beer Festival (other sour beer category).
Veritas 018 was aged in oak with Peaches and Nectarines from Masumoto Farms as well as added Apricots. Delicate notes of apricots and peaches, oaky wood, and a balanced tartness come through with a lively character from the Brett present throughout the experience.
Selling Veritas 018 online will also come with a few restrictions. Whomever purchases Veritas 018, must also be the individual to pick up the bottles… NO EXCEPTIONS. Removing the option of proxies will help get the beer to as many people as possible and will allow a smoother pickup process. Consumers who do not pick up their bottles during their designated pick up time or those who attempt to use a proxy will surrender the bottles back to The Lost Abbey. A valid ID will be required to pick up the purchased bottles, as each transaction will be tied to the purchasers name. Any duplicate sales to the same name, email or credit card will be rendered null and void. Veritas 018 bottles will be limited to 4 per person at $41 each.
The pickup for retrieving purchased bottles Veritas 018 will take place beginning Friday during November 18th through Sunday November 27th (Closed on Thanksgiving Day). Pickup will take place during regular business hours. NO PROXIES ALLOWED

Lost Abbey to Release Veritas 009
The Lost Abbey's latest barrel-aged rarity more than three years in the making
The Lost Abbey will release the next in its coveted Veritas small-batch barrel-aged beers on Saturday, May 28, 2011. The most complex and time-consuming beer released by the brewery to date, Veritas 009 took more than three years and periods in bourbon and wine barrels to create. With only 100 cases available, Veritas 009 will not reach general distribution and will be available for purchase directly from the brewery only. The 750ml cork-stoppered bottles will be $35 each and strictly limited to four bottles per person.Veritas 009 is a substantial departure from earlier members of The Lost Abbey's small batch experimental program, which were generally sour beers aged in French oak barrels for 12 to 15 months. Begun in late 2007 as dark base beer, it was sent to freshly emptied bourbon barrels from Kentucky's Heaven Hill Distilleries. The beer aged for 15 months before it was moved into French oak barrels previously used for wine (primarily Syrah). Sour cherries were added and the beer was left to rest for another year and three months. Finally, in mid-2010, it was pulled from the barrels, blended, bottled and sent off to condition for an additional 11 months."It's one of the most complex beers we've ever created," Arthur said. "Veritas 009 has strong notes of cherry, red wine, cedar and dark cocoa accentuated by a pervasive acidity that makes for an incredibly deep finish. It's an amazing beer and easily one of the most cellarable produced at The Lost Abbey. I have no doubt that it will drawn fans from both the craft beer and wine worlds."Interestingly, Veritas 009 came close to never being made available to the public. Begun as a private project of Arthur's, the existence of the beer and the details behind it were kept secret until last year. Even after news of the beer leaked to the public Arthur declined to discuss it beyond acknowledging that he did indeed have a barrel-aging project referred to only as "KT", a reference to the secretive order of the Knights Templar. It wasn't until a sampling session that Arthur decided to move the beer into Lost Abbey's public small batch program and release it as Veritas 009."There is so little and it took so long to perfect we actually considered issuing it as a private release, or not at all," Arthur said. "But after sampling last week, we decided that it was just too good to keep hidden and the public should have access to it."A total of 117 cases (12 bottles each) of Veritas 009 were produced. 100 cases will be made available to the public on release day. The "Other" T.E.A. Party Election Results
There was quite a voted turnout for the "Other TEA Party" last night. Fortunately there were no hanging chads, voting machine malfunctions or bad ballots, so the count was quick and easy.
Of a total of 210 votes cast, TEA 1, a light, lemony sour beer walked away the victor. Many remember a version of this beer premiered as the "Arnold Palmer" TEA at Stone Brewing's 14th Anniverary celebration this past August. As the winner, TEA 1 will be bottled as Veritas 008 and released at our Barrel Party Night on November 13, 2010. (Unfortunately, the Barrel Party is sold out, but if you were lucky enough to get a ticket, you'll be receiving a bottle of Veritas 008 that evening.)TEA 6 also had a strong showing, and an impromptu blend of TEA 2 and TEA 6 was very popular, so it's quite possible that 6, or a blended version thereof, may make an appearance again some time in the future. Here's a tally of the final results:
| Candidate | Votes | Description |
|---|---|---|
| TEA 1 | 74 (36%) | Mellow Yellow (French Oak barrel-aged Amigo) with fresh lemon zest and Black Tea |
| TEA 2 | 28 (13%) | Avant Garde Farmhouse Ale with Caramel Apple Rooibos Tea |
| TEA 3 | 22 (10%) | Mongo Double IPA with Mango Ceylon Black Tea |
| TEA 4 | 30 (14%) | Red Barn Saison with Orange Ginger Mint Tea |
| TEA 5 | 4 (2%) | Red Barn Saison with Ginger Lemon Grass Green Tea |
| TEA 6 | 52 (25%) | Old Viscosity with Green Rooibos Plantain Coconut Tea |
Thanks again to everyone who turned out for the vote, and to our friends at the Republic of Tea for providing the teas we used.
